CIAC Core Course
The 6-module curriculum every CIAC completes before sitting for the capstone assessment. Self-paced, with video, reading, and knowledge checks. Typical completion: 4–12 weeks.
Module 1 · ADA Foundations & Law
4–6 hrs- History of the ADA and the 2008 Amendments Act
- The five titles and who each covers
- The definition of disability (§ 12102) and "major life activities"
- Enforcement bodies: EEOC, DOJ, FCC
- Private right of action vs. administrative complaint
Module 2 · Physical Accessibility (2010 ADA Standards)
8–12 hrs- Routes of travel, parking, and site approach
- Doors, thresholds, interior circulation
- Restrooms, counters, and service points
- Signage, alarms, and wayfinding
- New construction vs. alterations vs. readily achievable barrier removal
- Site inspection methodology + documentation
Module 3 · Digital Accessibility (WCAG 2.1 / 2.2)
6–10 hrs- Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, Robust
- Level AA success criteria audit methodology
- ARIA patterns and common mistakes
- PDF accessibility
- Remediation reporting that holds up in litigation
Module 4 · Employment — Title I
4–6 hrs- Qualified individual, essential functions, and reasonable accommodation
- The interactive process (documented)
- Medical inquiries: pre-offer, post-offer, current employees
- Undue hardship and direct-threat defenses
- Sample policy and accommodation-request templates
Module 5 · Running a Practice
4–6 hrs- Pricing models and proposal templates
- Scope, contracts, and liability
- E&O insurance and risk management
- Client intake, project management, invoicing
- Marketing and the CIAC directory
Module 6 · Capstone
2–4 hrs- Practical case study (physical + digital scenario)
- Multiple-choice assessment on law and standards
- Report-writing demonstration
- Pass threshold: 80%
- One free retake included with enrollment
Enrollment
Course tuition: $397 one-time, which includes the capstone assessment and one free retake. Annual CIAC Member dues ($72/yr) are separate and due upon successful capstone completion.
